SMART Research Program Launched

SMART Research Program Launched

The Salzburg Medical AI Research in Traumatology (SMART) group officially begins operations, bringing together clinical expertise and advanced research methods to evaluate AI solutions for trauma care.

Independent Evaluation Focus

SMART represents a new approach to medical AI assessment — we don’t develop AI tools, we test them. Our mission is to provide healthcare professionals with independent, evidence-based guidance on which AI solutions actually work in real clinical environments.

Team Assembly Complete

Our multidisciplinary team combines:

  • Clinical expertise in orthopedic and trauma surgery
  • Advanced research methods in data science and health economics
  • Operational support from AI-powered coordination systems

Research Portfolio Launched

SMART begins with seven active research projects, including our flagship AI Fracture Trial — a multicenter randomized controlled trial involving 3,000 patients to evaluate diagnostic accuracy and treatment efficiency of AI-assisted fracture detection.

Looking Ahead

As artificial intelligence transforms healthcare, clinicians need trusted, independent guidance to navigate vendor claims and implementation challenges. SMART exists to provide that guidance through rigorous evaluation and practical recommendations.

The future of medical AI isn’t just about better algorithms — it’s about better integration with clinical workflows, cost-effective implementation, and measurable improvements in patient care.
